After watching Willie D discuss this, I decided to find this video footage for my own archives. Eventually, I found it on Youtube after typing “Nicki Minaj ‘13 yr old’” into YouTube’s search bar and hitting ‘enter’. I am not sure how old this video is. According to YouTube it was uploaded April 2, 2011 by an uploader named “JJ”. That is over 10 years old from time of date that Willie D discusses it resurfacing.
We do not have to delve too far into Onika’s present sordid media lapidation. I believe this video has surfaced because she is protecting her husband. Nicki Minaj and her husband, Kenneth Petty, are aparently working their angles to have a woman that he was convicted of raping to recant her allegations.
This is all absolutely amplitudes above my daily quota of messy. What we can discuss here, however, is how society treats public display of underage sexual assault differently based on sex of adult and sex of child.
This clip opens with Nicki Minaj authoritatively announcing that she needs a “boy”. I want us to be very clear here. She did not ask for a male. She did not ask for a man. She asked for a boy. Now, according to YouTube uploader JJ, she invites a 13 year old boy to her stage. I do not see or hear anywhere in this clip where he states his age or date of birth. However, his face and expression on that teleprompter causes me to conclude that he might have been celebrating his bar mitzah.
Given our contemporary media’s penchant for mob convictions of character, I did find it interesting that Nicki Minaj has not had her fair share of toes to fire. This is not that piece to crucify her, either. Despite what I am sure will be many outcries from our era’s manocracy, I am just not that concerned for roasting Nicki Minaj over a public act over 10 years of age.
Still and yet, there are ideas that this clip provides a public forum for. I highlight partly in jest this young person’s ethnicity. Although, like his actual age, I have not clue to his race. I thought it would be more salacious to include it.
His race only plays a subsequent quality in this. That he is a male that responds gleefully to “boy”, really is all we need. It is also important to note just how immediate and abrupt Nicki Minaj’s audience erupted with boo’s. A young boy was seemingly given a moment he would never forget. We are to assume, to presume, even, that he would never wash his forehead again. What we are not to read from what we are given, is his sexual vulnerabilty.
Oh pedonika..
